In Hindu mythology, Sharmishtha is a princess and the daughter of the daitya king Vrishaparvan. She is a friend of Devayani, the daughter of the brahmin Kaavya Ushanas, but they have an argument one day where they insult each other's lineage. Sharmishtha later becomes a servant to Devayani. Sharmishtha becomes the second wife of Yayati, making her an ancestor of the Pandavas and the Kauravas. Her story is told in the Adi Parva of the Mahabharata by Vaisampayana.
